Dr Peter Miles is a specialist in the field of orthodontics and a renowned leader in the field
Like other sciences there is a staggering amount of literature available on orthodontics. “Evidence-based Clinical Orthodontics” takes an unbiased approach to the vast body of literature on orthodontics by critically reviewing it and analysing the scientific date to help orthodontists to select and implement the most effective and efficient modes of treatment.
Dr Peter Miles contribution…
Dr Peter Miles of Newwave Orthodontics co-authored three chapters of the book as well as contributing a chapter on his own. As a leading Orthodontist Dr Miles is a dedicated teacher who guests lectures at many universities in Australia and around the world.
The book (which came out September 2012) is considered to be a timely text because it allows clinicians with very little time access knowledge of the current literature on orthodontics and apply evidence-based orthodontics in their practice.
One of the chapters Dr Miles co-authored was about the pros and cons of early prevention. At New Wave Orthodontics on the Sunshine Coast we believe that early prevention is important…
The benefit of early diagnoses is that it can correct problems in their infancy. That way the problems do not get a chance to gain a foothold in your child’s mouth. Early interceptive treatment isn’t always needed but it can be useful and if our dentists believe it is necessary we will definitely recommend it for your child.
Signs that your child may need an early oral exam:
- Thumb sucking
- Early or late loss of teeth
- Sunken or protruding jaw
- Jaw dysfunction
It is always better to be safe than sorry, if your child is exhibiting any of these symptoms we recommend that you book an appointment with one of friendly dentists. While it is unusual that a child will need orthodontics Dr Miles recommends that all children by about 10 years of age; the purpose of this is to make sure the risk of impacting teeth is reduced as well as any other serious oral health problems).
The following chapter is on bonding and adhesives in Orthodontics (sounds exciting right?); and this ties into our adult orthodontic treatments…
For adults who are looking to improve the look and appearance of their smile we have a range of treatments that can help you out. Many of these treatments are suited to adults because they are designed to have as little impact as possible on your lifestyle.
In order to give you fast, accurate and the most comfortable experience we use indirect bonding. Indirect bonding is better than placing brackets one at a time which only drags out the process.
Using the latest technology, the Cadent iTero digital impression system we are able to take a highly accurate virtual impression of your crown and bridge area; this ensures that the most accurate model of your teeth can be constructed. Invisalign is practically transparent, hygienic and undetectable treatment for straightening your teeth.
Invisalign differs from traditional braces in that it does not use metal brackets and wires but a series of custom moulded removable aligners that progressively shift your teeth to the desired positions.
Another benefit of invisalign is that they can be removed; this allows you to eat and brush your teeth normally. Another benefit is that invisalign is completely natural and gentle on the teeth and gums so it does not get in the way of your daily life.
At New Wave Orthodontics our range of orthodontic treatments and procedures is led by Dr Miles who treats his patients with an emphasis towards cutting edge, state of the art techniques to give you the best functional and beautiful smile that you desire.
