Pacifiers and Digit Sucking

As parents we worry about everything with our newborns and that’s perfectly natural – we want the best for them. Some parents are concerned about the use a dummy or pacifier and will it affect their baby’s teeth and bite.

It is normal for infants to have a sucking desire to age 2 which reduces over time and most toddlers stop by age 4. However, sucking a dummy is a much better habit to have than sucking a finger or thumb as it is MUCH easier to stop the dummy sucking habit later. So by age 2 you can consider trying to wean you’re child off a pacifier. Never coat a pacifier in honey or other sweet substances as this will cause rapid and painful decay in your infant.
