Is it worth getting adult braces?

At Newwave Orthodontics we believe it’s never too late for our Sunshine Coast patients to get the smile they deserve, and adult braces can help you do just that.

In fact, in the modern age, it’s quite a common sight to see grown-ups with braces as they seek to improve the appearance of their smile and straighten those pearly whites. Operating from our practice in Caloundra, we have a strong focus on exceeding the expectations of our patients, and our team of oral professionals is dedicated to providing you with tailor-made solutions to your dental concerns.

Dr Peter Miles is our principal orthodontist and will always ensure that you are fully informed about any treatment you receive from us. We will provide you with the highest standards of care and strive to give you not only the best results but comfort and peace of mind as well.

Why you should consider adult braces

Adult braces have always been the best method of treatment to help you attain your straightest smile after adolescence. But, thanks to the development of modern orthodontics we are now able to provide a whole host of options to suit your specific needs. In its formative years, orthodontics relied on the traditional and somewhat clunky metal braces to achieve results.

More adult braces are being fitted than ever before. And while braces are usually fitted in order to correct the alignment of your teeth, they also have a significant effect on your oral health. By straightening your teeth, you will be able to easily clean them, and as a result, you are less likely to suffer from gum disease and decay as the areas those bacteria thrive in are now exposed. Crooked or misaligned teeth can also cause you to chew abnormally and may lead to premature tooth wear and gum recession.

What are my treatment options?

Invisalign

At the forefront of discreet adult orthodontics are our Invisalign treatments. Invisalign uses a series of clear and removable aligners that use unique SmartForce technology to shift your teeth into their desired position over time. Virtually invisible, these aligners are the perfect solution for those who are concerned with traditional braces being too noticeable.

Using our advanced Cadent iTero digital scanning system, we can map your teeth and create a range of custom-made aligners designed to straighten your smile. As adult orthodontics go, the Invisalign treatment is arguably the most discreet option and eliminates the need for numerous trips to the Orthodontist for messy moulds.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are a scientific marvel and are an excellent option for anyone considering adult braces. Even though they work much the same as traditional braces, they have one major difference. Lingual braces are attached to the back of your teeth as opposed to the front making them almost completely unnoticeable. If you are in a profession where you may need your treatment to go under the radar, or simply don’t want the attention associated with traditional adult braces, then lingual braces could be for you.

Traditional Braces

There is a reason that traditional braces have stood the test of time as an adult orthodontic treatment – they work! Traditional braces are now lighter in weight and structure than they used to be. They are created from a high-grade stainless steel and small metal brackets attach to each tooth with a type of cement. The brackets are linked to each other with a thin archwire, which puts gradual pressure on the teeth to cause them to move slowly into the correct position.

In addition to this effectiveness, we will always use ceramic or ‘clear’ braces on the front six teeth to help ensure all our patients feel more comfortable during their treatment. The main benefit of clear braces is that they are almost transparent which can help you get treatment discreetly.
